About The Position

Alamo Structural Steel, LLC is a leading structural steel fabricator in Texas, committed to integrity, quality, and excellence. We take pride in delivering high-quality fabricated steel on time while upholding the highest ethical standards. As a Fitter/Welder, you will be responsible for fabricating a wide range of miscellaneous metal projects. This includes cutting and welding metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand-welding equipment. Minimum Starting Salary: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour - depending on experience (Full-time Alamo employees are eligible for shift differential pay) Shifts Available: Day Shift | Monday - Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm Night Shift | Monday - Thursday 4:00pm to 2:30am

Requirements

  • Knowledge of metal and basic shop fabrication equipment.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in MIG welding with the ability to pass a welding test.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to withstand pressure and adapt to change.
  • Ability to multi-task while meeting strict deadlines.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of experience in a structural welding environment.
  • Ability to pass a Fillet Weld Test.
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of TIG welding is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintain, organize, and keep work area and equipment in operating condition.
  • Hand-weld and/or flame-cut equipment to join metal components.
  • Cut and scarf using an oxy-acetylene torch.
  • Structural welding using FCAW & SMAW.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Properly assemble and disassemble weld setups.
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
  • Reshape metal workpieces to establish specifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
