About The Position

Signal Metal Industries is a well-established, highly diversified, steel fabrication and machining company that manufactures large steel products for various heavy industries throughout the country. We do traditional job shop work and also perform production work for other large manufacturers in the USA. Our growing, 52-year-old company has over 130 employees who are dedicated to providing superior quality products in a safe environment while meeting our customer's toughest delivery requirements. This position is a Full-time Direct Hire located in Irving, Texas. Day shift - (Monday - Thursday 4 x 10s), Overtime on Friday as required. Hourly pay rate $24.00 - $28.00 depending on experience. All applicants will be required to go through our welding and fitting assessment at our corporate headquarters located in Irving, TX. You will need a welding hood, heavy welding gloves, long sleeves, welding pliers (Welpers), and a chipping hammer. Our Pre-Employment Welding Assessment is a plate Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) test using 1/16" (0.062") flux-core wire. You will be required to run beads in both the flat and up-hill positions.

Requirements

• 3 to 5 years in Steel Fabrication working as Fabricator/Fitter
• Blueprint reading
• Hand tools proficiency
• Fabrication experience
• Basic math skills
• Welding knowledge, including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding
• Familiarity with power tools
• Ability to work on construction sites
• Understanding of crane operation
• Experience with steel plates and FCAW welding

Responsibilities

• Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
• Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
• Tack-weld fitted parts together.
• Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met.
• Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
• Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
• Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, and/or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
• Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
• Move parts into position, manually or by using forklifts, hoists and/or cranes.
• Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools.
• Assist in straightening warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, straightening presses, or bulldozers.
• Communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates by providing information by telephone, in written form, email, or in person.
• Prioritize time by multitasking and shifting back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information.
• Capable of lifting at least 50+ pounds.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
