About The Position

The Fitness Technician will be responsible for supervising the fitness floor, assisting members, cleaning, inventory, and keeping track of broken equipment. The rock wall responsibilities will be decided by the overseeing supervisor. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AED/CPR certification required during orientation period.
  • 3 months experience preferred but not required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic and advanced climbing techniques preferred but not required, will be trained on the job during orientation process before assuming duties.
  • Climbing, belaying experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with groups.
  • Experience working with individuals of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Greets each user and guest by name when they enter and leave the event or fitness area.
  • Responsible for cleaning all fitness equipment before end of shift.
  • Responsible for checking and taking out dirty towels to the dirty linen closet, expected to be done hourly and must initial the railroad check-off list.
  • Responsible for checking the sauna and steam room for proper use and for a safety check for members, expected to be done hourly and must initial the railroad check-off list.
  • Responsible for straightening and replacing weights to designated racks.
  • May be expected to help with assessments, 1on1's, and reassessments.
  • Responsible for checking daily use lockers after closing and following the lost and found policy for any items left in lockers.
  • Will be expected to help with phone calls and scheduling of assessments, 1on1's, and reassessments.
  • Will be required to work the Rock Wall.
  • Responsible for teaching participants basic safety on the climbing wall and proper etiquette.
  • Responsible for using the climbing wall appropriately for different age groups and ensuring that participants have an enjoyable experience.
  • Responsible for replacing all climbing equipment in the storage closet and ensuring climbing mats are returned to upright position on wall to avoid safety hazards.
  • Responsible for setting up, maintaining, and keeping an equipment log for the climbing wall.
  • Responsible for ensuring all participants, staff, and volunteers understand proper belaying and commands.
  • Responsible for ensuring the area is safe and that non-participants are vocally supportive of climbers and are properly supervised by other staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all signage, fencing, and other safety materials are clearly in place and well maintained.
  • Responsible for ensuring that helmets, ropes, harnesses, buckles, carabineers, and any other equipment is ready for all groups and in usable condition.
  • Informs fitness supervisor of any needed supplies.
  • Teaches primary safety/orientation classes.
  • Assists with belaying of users.
  • Offers users advice on how to improve their climbing skills and techniques.
  • Maintains climbing equipment and wall equipment.
  • Performs and documents all safety checks for the climbing wall.
  • Conducts inventory of fitness equipment and climbing equipment.
  • Sets climbing routes.
  • Performs other facility related duties as needed to ensure the satisfaction and enjoyment of the users.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
