About The Position

The Fitness Specialist is responsible for providing direct fitness services to members such as personal training, group fitness, assisted stretching, weight management, and nutrition. Develops safe and effective fitness plans for special populations including but not limited to post-therapy rehabilitation, injury prevention, heart disease, obesity, cancer, diabetes, neurological disorders, spine injuries, and other physical impairments. Monitors client progress and adapts programs as needed. In addition to direct client care, the Fitness Specialist will lead and coordinate specialized wellness programs such as Home Base, Exercise is Medicine, Oncology Exercise, Post Rehabilitation, and Move Well that address the needs of special populations and service lines align with Tampa General Hospital’s (TGH) mission, vision, and values. Responsible for ensuring a safe and inclusive environment and will contribute to facility cleanliness and equipment maintenance. Provide administrative support related to customer service, member satisfaction, and wellness program promotion. Contribute to strategies for membership engagement, retention, and growth. Develop marketing campaigns and initiatives. Promote health literacy, preventive wellness, and sustainable behavior change by facilitating evidence-based, chronic disease self-management community programs and other workshops. This position also provides support and mentoring for junior fitness staff to enhance professional development and service quality. Additionally, this role will be responsible for performing select fitness and education services for TampaWell and OneTGH corporate partners, on and off campus. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science/Physiology or Kinesiology or Health Science or Health Education/Promotion or Public Health or Related Field
  • CPR/AED
  • National Group Fitness Certification
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, years of experience, and key role competencies.
  • National Group Fitness Certification from issuing bodies such as Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
  • Strong knowledge of exercise science, anatomy, and physiology, including exercise prescription for special populations.
  • Advanced computer skills such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams (Meetings, Town Hall Forums.)
  • Possesses strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, written and verbal, with all audiences.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deliver presentations, facilitate discussions, and represent the organization in public forums, community events, and professional settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee the planning, development, and implementation of evidence-based interventions and innovative wellness programs
  • Ability to lead promotional efforts and branding initiatives to advertise programs and events effectively with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to support leadership in developing and refining engagement strategies.
  • Confidence in public speaking and presenting effectively promote events and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one, small group personal training, and group fitness classes tailored to members with diverse fitness levels and special populations.
  • Deliver assisted stretching services to improve mobility, recovery, and overall performance.
  • Facilitate and monitor metabolic analyzer testing to provide weight management education and improved health outcomes.
  • Lead and oversee specialized health promotion programs including Home Base, Exercise is Medicine, Oncology, Move Well, and Post Rehab.
  • Collaborate with key partners and hospital stakeholders to strategize, coordinate, and implement health programs.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret program data to measure outcomes, recommend strategies for improvement, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Documents client sessions thoroughly, including subjective input, objective findings, clinical assessments, and detailed plans of care.
  • Safeguard personal health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
  • Supervise daily facility operations to ensure a safe, clean, and professional environment.
  • Deliver high-impact, evidence-based health education programs covering chronic disease self-management, physical health, mental well-being, nutrition, work-life balance, and preventive care for internal teams and external partners, across in-person and virtual platforms.
  • Stay abreast of workplace wellness trends, legal considerations, and health promotion innovations.
  • Attend relevant training and obtain certifications to enhance program delivery and effectiveness.
  • Support software promotion, SharePoint platform, merchandise operations, marketing and communication initiatives.
  • Lead wellness marketing campaigns, member activities, membership recruitment, retention, and engagement.
  • Promote health literacy, preventive wellness, and sustainable behavior change through workshops and seminars.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members, ensuring successful execution of their responsibilities.
  • Oversee shared department email.
