POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the direction and supervision of the fitness department, which will include overseeing the fitness floor. The Fitness Lead will provide direct support for the promotion of Group Exercise and Personal Training programs. Must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support a team that is focused on providing superior member experience at all times. Will be accountable for member engagement and retention initiatives set out by Center Leadership and/or The Family Experience Team relative to the fitness center and related programming.

Requirements

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Two or more years of experience as a leader or coach, or equivalent in programming.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • At least 1-3 years fitness experiences
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Bachelor’s degree (in related fitness field), or college courses related to anatomy and physiology are acceptable.
  • Current nationally recognized accredited personal training certification (e.g. ACE, NASM, NCSA, NETA, ACSM)
  • Current CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certification (or within 30 days of hire)
  • Flexible Schedule, days, nights and weekends
  • Completion of new associate training (including Child Abuse Prevention) before scheduled to work
  • At least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • In-center support of the Fitness Department.
  • Contribute to the training for new fitness associates.
  • Participate in the supervision and evaluation of associates to ensure the safety, cleanliness and function of the Fitness Center, group exercise room(s), multipurpose room(s) and equipment. Provide support and communication with associates to provide a high level of member engagement and customer service to ensure the needs of the members are met.
  • Complete fit coach schedules in Dayforce scheduler in conjunction with in-center Operations Director.
  • Engage members in FitQuest to assist in member retention and achieve the center's monthly goals and annual objectives.
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate Association Member Engagement Programs as directed.
  • Monitor the achievement of the in-center fitness team through quarterly In-Service meetings.
  • Participate in association mandatory trainings when applicable. Follow the program standards and quality guidelines as outlined by the Family Experience Team.
  • Participate as needed in the center management team to provide consistent and quality service standards to include shared responsibility for the day-to-day center operations and participation in leader on duty shifts, center and association special events and other leadership duties as assigned.
  • Assists in achieving the center's goal to include the Send A Kid to Camp Campaign, Turkey Trot and other fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Assist the Y in Central Maryland in achieving the 2025 Strategic Plan and subsequent strategic plans.
  • Follow all Y in Central Maryland policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Maintain and keep an up to date inventory of all equipment.
  • Assist in all areas as assigned
  • Complete direct service hours while contributing program development
