About The Position

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for designing and leading safe, engaging, and inclusive fitness and wellness programs that support residents’ physical health, independence, and overall quality of life. This role focuses on age-appropriate exercise, mobility, balance, and strength while fostering a welcoming, motivating environment for residents of varying abilities.

Requirements

  • Certification in Group Fitness Instruction, Personal Training, or related field
  • Experience in leading aqua aerobics
  • Experiencing in working with older adults and seniors
  • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents
  • Knowledge of age-related physical changes and exercise modifications for seniors
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • CPR and First Aid certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead group and individual fitness classes tailored to older adults, including chair fitness, balance training, stretching, low-impact aerobics, strength training, aqua aerobics, and flexibility exercises.
  • Modify exercises to accommodate residents with varying mobility levels, chronic conditions, or physician-recommended limitations.
  • Promote a culture of wellness, independence, and resident dignity through positive encouragement and individualized support.
  • Monitor residents during classes to ensure proper form, safety, and comfort; respond appropriately to concerns or emergencies.
  • Coordinate fitness center orientation and assessment of new residents to ensure safety when using equipment unsupervised.
  • Conduct private sessions as requested.
  • Work in conjunction with outside vendors for supplemental programming related to health and fitness.
  • Supervise and coordinate outings with residents that promote health and fitness, such as nature walks/hikes, etc.
  • Collaborate with Lifestyle, Nursing, and Therapy teams to align fitness programming with resident care plans and community wellness goals.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and provide feedback on resident participation and progress as appropriate.
  • Ensure fitness areas and equipment are clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Stay current on best practices related to senior fitness, fall prevention, and functional movement.
  • Report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
