About The Position

The Group Fitness & Wellness Instructor will provide uplifting, ability based movement experiences to residents across CRISTA’s Senior Living campus. Teach scheduled group fitness and wellness classes, build encouraging relationships with residents. Support programs that promote joy, purpose, independence and whole person’s wellbeing. Focus on high quality instruction, resident engagement and creating a safe, welcoming environment where older adults can thrive.

Requirements

  • Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
  • Is a committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.).
  • Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
  • Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
  • Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
  • Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
  • Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
  • Demonstrate experience teaching group fitness, leading movement based programs, or supporting older adults and special populations.
  • A nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor certification (ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, etc.) or a valid K–12 Public Educator Certification in Physical Education and Health Education, which will be accepted in lieu of a standard industry credential
  • Current CPR/AED Certification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Audio and visual system operation. Basic data entry.
  • Full agreement with the CRISTA doctrinal statement.
  • Ability to pass background check relating to DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions. (WAC 388-113).
  • Utilize a warm, encouraging communication style, with the ability to adapt instruction and use trauma‑informed, resident‑centered approaches.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 plus year of fitness and wellness programming and teaching experience.
  • 1-2 years in the senior living industry.
  • Additional fitness and/or wellness related certifications.
  • Client services software.
  • Active membership in professional organizations.
  • Experience working as a physical education and/or health educator.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging, ability‑based group fitness and wellness classes for Independent Living and Assisted Living residents, using creativity and compassion to make each session safe, enjoyable, and effective.
  • Modify exercises and teaching methods to effectively support residents with varying levels of mobility, physical limitations and cognitive functioning.
  • Create a warm, motivating class environment that encourages participation and fosters joy, confidence, social connection and purposeful engagement.
  • Incorporate whole‑person wellness into programming—including physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual wellbeing.
  • Prepare class spaces and equipment, ensuring proper setup, sanitation, and safe use of all fitness materials.
  • Support residents through relational engagement, encouragement, and trauma‑informed, adaptable communication that builds trust and confidence.
  • Promote safe program operations by following proper body mechanics, adhering to safety practices, and responding appropriately to resident needs or incidents.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Fitness & Wellness team, care staff and supervisors regarding resident observations, safety concerns, or changes in condition.
  • Support the broader Fitness & Wellness program through wellness education, activity promotion, attendance tracking, incident documentation, and participation in emergency and safety protocols.
  • Track class attendance and complete incident reports as needed to support accurate documentation and resident safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
