The Fishing Guide at The Resort at Paws Up is responsible for leading and conducting fly fishing expeditions for guests in various settings. This role involves teaching fly fishing fundamentals, ensuring safety during excursions, and sharing a passion for the outdoors with guests while adhering to local regulations.

  • Teach fly fishing fundamentals to guests of various ages and abilities.
  • Instruct guests on river etiquette and local wildlife.
  • Conduct fly fishing excursions, including floating raft trips.
  • Perform safety and instruction for guided activities.
  • Navigate and row a drift boat or raft safely.
  • Understand river morphology and whitewater rescue techniques.
  • Share knowledge and passion for Western Montana's outdoors with guests.
  • Operate company vehicles properly.
  • Prepare for and assist in lunch presentation during activities.
  • Monitor guests' health and hydration during excursions.
  • Work with diverse personalities to ensure guest comfort and safety.
  • Remain calm under pressure and manage crises effectively.
  • Stay organized and detail-oriented, using checklists to ensure tasks are completed.
  • Build strong working relationships and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Assist guests with departmental forms and inquiries.
  • Manage inventory of Activities Department equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup for activities.
  • Maintain and care for equipment used in activities.
  • Communicate effectively with management and other departments to meet activity needs.
  • Promote resort activities to guests and maintain awareness of resort amenities.
  • Perform opening and closing duties for the department.
  • Answer phones courteously and in a timely manner.
  • Engage with guests to fulfill special requests and ensure confidentiality.
  • Assist with guest activity issues promptly and accurately.
  • Complete daily department checklists and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Assist with other activity assignments as needed.
  • High school diploma, GED, or vocational training; education in Outdoor Recreation preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fly fishing and instruction.
  • Experience navigating a raft and/or drift boat.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment while remaining organized.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor under high demands.
  • Valid Montana Fishing and Conservation License.
  • Valid State Driver's License with at least two years of driving experience.
