About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire Conservation Education Representative's. One (1) CER will be located at Bicentennial Park and one (1) CER will be located at Frank Holten State Park. Under general supervision of site staff, the Conservation Education Representative's will possess and handle live fish and bait in an interactive fishing clinic designed to instill an appreciation and understanding of conservation ethics, sport fishing techniques and tackle, fish ecology and identification; gather data and assemble information; compose newspaper and magazine releases interpreting the Urban Fishing Program activities. Requirements

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in journalism, English, or public speaking.
• Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
• Requires appropriate, valid Driver’s license.
• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.

Nice To Haves

• Elementary knowledge of the principles of conservation and/or historical education
• Two (2) years of professional experience in a public education and information program in a public or private agency
• One (1) year of experience in public speaking
• One (1) year of experience using cameras, projectors, recorders, and outdoor equipment
• One (1) year of experience presenting ideas effectively, both orally and in writing
• One (1) year of experience preparing reports and keeping records on conservation education activities
• One (1) year of fishing experience

Responsibilities

• Under general direction of the central Urban Fishing Program Manager, develops and executes the Conservation Education Program for the Urban Fishing Program in St. Clair County.
• Serves as program liaison with media outlets.
• Participates in staff meetings relating to the development and presentation of education and information material.
• Interprets and promotes the Urban Fishing Program's services and activities.
• Develops and establishes new and more effective methods of clinic instructions.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
