The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for a Fishery Biologist 2 (Kodiak Finfish Research Biologist) located in Kodiak, Alaska! What you will be doing: The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries, is seeking a highly motivated Fishery Biologist 2 to join our team in Kodiak, Alaska. This position serves as the project leader for several key programs, including salmon scale aging, catch and escapement sampling, herring biomass assessment, salmon test fishery operations, and the management of a floating weir project. The incumbent is responsible for conducting and overseeing a range of analytical work, including salmon run forecasting, escapement goal development, and stock status evaluations throughout the Westward Region. This role also will train, supervise, and direct a seasonal biologist and several fish and wildlife technicians. In support of commercial fisheries management, the Kodiak Finfish Research Biologist will: Direct supervision of 1 biologist and up to 6 seasonal technicians. Oversee aging for all Westward region salmon scale sample collections. Coordinate commercial catch sampling programs Develop and lead salmon population monitoring projects. Write research proposals, operational plans, reports, and manuscripts. Provide various analyses for fishery management. Present results of fishery research at local advisory board meetings. The working conditions you can expect: This full-time position is based at the ADF&G office in Kodiak, Alaska and requires occasional trips to remote operation areas. This position will require travel via small aircraft and vessels and work will be conducted in inclement weather, at sea, and in processing facilities. Requirements

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, fisheries science, or natural resource management; AND One year of professional experience as a biologist or fish culturist.
The required professional biologist experience is met by service as a Fishery Biologist 1, Fish Culturist 1, Wildlife Biologist 1, or Habitat Biologist 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
A valid driver's license is required.
This position may be in possession of, or have access to, firearms/ammunition.
