About The Position

The Fisheries & Wildlife Bio Scientist IV position at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is a full-time career service role focused on wildlife conservation in the Northwest Region. Requirements

  • Master's degree in life/physical sciences with two or more years of professional experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or four years of professional experience directly related to the duties of the position preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Successful completion of a background check is mandatory.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of conservation biology principles and their application to Florida's native wildlife.
  • Experience or knowledge of habitat restoration work.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and lead a team of biologists.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Regional Biologist in the Wildlife Diversity Conservation Section for the Northwest Region.
  • Coordinate and conduct all aspects of nongame wildlife conservation.
  • Lead or support the implementation of conservation programs for state and federally listed species.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff, including managing budgets and purchasing.
  • Engage with cooperators, stakeholders, and the regulated community through communication and presentations.
  • Develop partnerships with external agencies and conservation organizations.
  • Implement projects to benefit imperiled wildlife and Species of Greatest Conservation Need.
  • Manage designated Critical Wildlife Areas and apply for grants related to regional priorities.
  • Provide technical assistance regarding state listed species Permitting Guidelines and Florida's State Wildlife Grants Program.
  • Review and comment on projects potentially impacting state listed species.
