About The Position

The Fisheries & Wildlife Bio Scientist II position at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission involves planning, directing, and participating in freshwater fish population and community monitoring. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences and one year of professional biological experience, or a master's degree in biological sciences.
  • Knowledge of biological sciences and research techniques related to freshwater fishes.
  • Skill in using scientific laboratory and field equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science degree in Fisheries/Aquatic Sciences.
  • Experience sampling fish, habitat, and water quality in freshwater ecosystems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, R and R Studio, and/or ArcGIS.
  • Experience extracting, processing, and aging otoliths.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and participate in freshwater fish population and community monitoring.
  • Conduct sportfish monitoring, fish community monitoring, and seasonal creel surveys.
  • Collect data for fish length frequency, age and growth, and other population parameters.
  • Analyze data and develop models for research findings.
  • Prepare annual reports and oral presentations of findings.
  • Assist in developing and executing field activities for research studies.
  • Measure physical and chemical water parameters and assess aquatic habitats.
  • Supervise OPS personnel, including recruitment, training, and performance reviews.
