The Fisheries Collaborative Program (FCP) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) is seeking applications for a pool of Project Scientists to support research on the conservation and management of California's living marine resources. The role involves contributing to various research projects related to salmon ecology, fisheries assessment, molecular ecology, and ecosystem forecasting, among others. Project Scientists will design and implement studies, manage complex datasets, and contribute to publications and presentations, with opportunities for senior scientists to supervise research personnel and serve as Principal Investigators.

  • Design and implement field or laboratory-based studies related to marine resources.
  • Manage and analyze large and complex datasets.
  • Contribute to presentations, agency reports, and peer-reviewed publications as a co-author or lead author.
  • Collaborate with NOAA scientists, UCSC faculty, and IMS researchers on research projects.
  • Support research on the conservation and management of California's living marine resources.
  • Ph.D. in fisheries sciences, marine biology, biological oceanography, ocean/marine sciences, ecology, evolutionary biology, environmental science, biology, or a related field; or an M.A./M.S. degree with four years of research experience.
  • Experience in field or laboratory studies in fisheries biology, marine science, oceanography, or related fields.
  • Expertise in population modeling, animal movement analysis, tagging and tracking aquatic species, or habitat analysis.
  • Experience with computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, R).
  • Database management skills.
  • Statistical analysis experience.
