About The Position

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is seeking to hire temporary employees for the 2026 field season. Work location will be at the Essex Jct. office. Duties include several field-based activities including, but not limited to, bass and fish community pond surveys, stream trout population surveys, temperature monitoring, culvert assessments, habitat improvement projects, creel surveys, data entry and equipment preparation and maintenance. The work can be physically demanding and may be conducted in adverse weather conditions. Variable hours including evenings, weekends and holidays may be required. Employees are limited to 40 hours/week. Benefits are not provided. Incumbent participates in field surveys, studies, and investigations by collecting, recording, and compiling data or information/literature for select fish and wildlife programs. Examples of surveys include creel, wildlife capture, breeding bird, or remote camera surveys. Data collection may also include attending to a biological check station or using radio telemetry to locate animals. Incumbent operates and maintains equipment and supplies to conduct such surveys. Work is performed in accord with methods designed and supervised by either a fish and wildlife specialist or a fish and wildlife scientist. Incumbent also performs a variety of land and habitat management activities, including: Erecting and repairing fences and kiosks Clearing, mowing or cutting vegetation Maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment May perform habitat management activities on state lands involving tree cutting, invasive species control, or pruning of fruit trees. May survey for and map wildlife habitats using GPS.This position, Fish & Wildlife Technician I - Temporary (Job Requisition #54415), is open to all State employees and external applicants. Requirements

  • High School diploma AND greater than 60 credit hours in a University/College natural resources program.
  • valid Vermont driver's license
  • Vermont boating education certification may be required
