About The Position

The Fish Culturist I position at Cannery Creek Hatchery is a full-time role focused on the cultivation and rearing of fish, particularly salmon species. Requirements

  • Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science in relevant fields such as aquaculture, biology, or fisheries.
  • Under 1 year of experience in fish or wildlife technician roles or technical laboratory/fieldwork experience.
  • Ability to operate small boats, snowmobiles, and power tools safely.
  • Knowledge of fishery and aquaculture resources and laboratory practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with budgeting and data collection.
  • Knowledge of firearms and firearm safety.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, supervise, and perform complex paraprofessional or technical field, laboratory, or office work related to hatchery operations.
  • Conduct fish propagation activities including caring for, spawning, and monitoring water quality.
  • Prepare and maintain harvest equipment and manage fish harvest data.
  • Lead and supervise lower-level technicians in routine duties and hatchery operations.
  • Organize, collect, and present data for reports, including statistical computations and data collection logs.
  • Communicate daily with supervisors to maintain logistical support for crews.
  • Recommend procedures and techniques to improve work efficiencies.
