About The Position

The Fish Culturist 3 position at the Chateaugay Fish Hatchery involves serving as the assistant manager, overseeing the operations and staff of the hatchery. The role includes supervising lower-level fish culturists and volunteers, planning maintenance schedules, directing construction activities, and performing various administrative tasks. The incumbent will also be responsible for evaluating data, preparing reports, and managing the hatchery's annual work program and budget.

Requirements

• Currently in the title and an employee of DEC or previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis.
• One year of permanent competitive service as a Fish Culturist 2 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1.
• Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet transportation needs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise lower-level fish culturists, hourly employees, and volunteers.
• Plan and supervise maintenance schedules for grounds, buildings, equipment, and fish culture facilities.
• Direct construction activities when necessary.
• Perform administrative tasks including personnel and labor relations issues, employee recruitment, selection, and evaluation.
• Prepare purchase requisitions and evaluate data to prepare reports using valid scientific procedures.
• Plan and direct the annual work program for the hatchery.
• Oversee implementation of hatchery fish cultural programs.
• Coordinate fish health management plan.
• Compile and prepare hatchery budget requests to support annual operating costs.
