About The Position

This position is located in National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS); Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC); Fish Research & Monitoring Division (FRMD); 1 vacancy, in Honolulu, HI. As a Fish Biologist, you will perform duties related to survey and biological data acquisition, management, analysis, and communication. You will assist in the design and execution of data collection and analysis of fishery-dependent and fishery-independent information, participate in lab management, and carry out life history research including drafting technical reports and manuscripts.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
  • Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year probationary period.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • This position requires the operation of a Federal motor vehicle. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in planning and conducting life history research on fish ecologies.
  • Experience in writing scientific publications based on findings.
  • Experience in managing lab activities including planning and managing biological collections.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in survey and biological data acquisition, management, analysis and communication.
  • Utilize fish data systems to prepare, maintain, and analyze real time and/or historical data.
  • Assist the program leader with the design, execution, data collection and data analysis of fishery dependent and fishery independent information.
  • Participate in lab management to include organizing and storing biological collections, supply inventories, chemical management and lab safety.
  • Carry out life history research (fish age, growth, and reproduction) including participating in the drafting of technical reports and manuscripts.
