About The Position

This is an office-based position that is a unique opportunity to serve as the face of the Division of Sport Fish in the Homer area by working at the front counter, while also being directly involved with in-season salmon monitoring by reviewing video weir files to produce daily escapement counts, proofing and entering weir data, and occasionally helping with field projects. The majority of the time this position will assist the public by answering questions about sport fish regulations, selling fishing and guide licenses, processing charter logbooks, checking out sport fishing gear, and otherwise directing inquiries to other staff. The mission of the Division of Sport Fish is to protect, maintain, and improve Alaska's sport fisheries. The incumbent to this position will directly support that mission by explaining important sport fishing information to anglers and the public daily, and by helping process in-season data to support the management of sport fisheries in the area. Requirements

  • High school graduation or the equivalent.
  • Six months experience at the developmental level of fish and wildlife technician or aide.
  • One year of technical laboratory and/or field experience involving fish or wildlife research, management, or habitat protection.
  • A valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in fisheries, wildlife, or habitat protection.
  • Experience with customer service and administrative tasks.
  • Interest in sport fisheries, particularly in the Lower Cook Inlet area.
