About The Position

Are you looking for experience in the California Department of Fish and Wildlife lands and wildlife management programs? This Scientific Aid position works under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor), and the direction of lead workers including Environmental Scientists, in the Region 4 Coastal Lands and Wildlife Management unit, performing a broad range of environmental service and environmental sciences duties assisting lands and wildlife management staff in Monterey and San Benito Counties (some in San Luis Obispo), with opportunities to help on projects Region- or State-wide when needed. Assist in wildlife surveys, habitat management on Ecological Reserves and Wildlife Areas, spatial data collection and analysis, hunt program administration, large mammal captures, and more. Receive training from professional environmental departmental staff and gain practical experience by observing and assisting with the work performed; assist in and perform related research; may perform more independent studies in areas of particular expertise; analyze and evaluate data; prepares recommendation, reports and correspondence; observe methods, problems and principles related to the professional environmental assignments; gain experience in the methods and ethics of professional conduct and practice.
