About The Position

The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public. The objective of this position is to contribute to the timely and accurate processing of daily revenue transactions in accordance with agency and state policies and procedures. This position performs a variety of fiscal duties requiring knowledge of accounting functions or principles, general business practices, and/or applicable computer systems. The individual in this position will research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate financial and operational data. This position requires knowledge of agency, state and federal laws, rules and regulations with the ability to apply this knowledge in the daily performance of duties. The position interacts frequently with internal and external customers using both verbal and written communication skills to discuss financial processes or issues. The primary duties of this position include accurate entry of daily receipts into DH P's licensing system, Mylicense Office (MLO), ensuring that revenue payments comply with state and agency requirements while establishing/ maintaining accurate licensee demographic records according to regulatory guidelines, understanding board regulations as they apply to fee structures, interpreting financial histories and delivering excellent customer service. Additionally, this position is responsible for preparation of deposits for money received in-house, analyzing and processing revenue reallocations and refunds, completing the multi-step processes of posting dishonored checks, chargebacks, and EDI deposits; and analyzing, processing and entering financial transactions in the applicable computer systems. This position will assist other staff members in all the Financial Services Division functional areas to support the division's strategic and tactical cross-training goals, ensuring that workflow continues uninterrupted during peak processing periods and unexpected challenges throughout the performance cycle.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Working knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply, interpret, or assess existing policies, procedures, laws, and regulations with potentially considerable financial or operational impact on the agency, program participants, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external customers using both verbal and written skills to prepare reports and discuss financial processes or issues requiring effective communication skills.
  • Ability to make independent and logical decisions and/or recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform accurate data entry to record demographic and financial information.
  • Ability to manage time and assignments to effectively meet deadlines, multi-task, and work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, automated environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team in a high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to provide project or team leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to modify processing procedures when regulatory and fee changes occur.
  • Proficient in the use of all MS Office Suite applications, specifically Excel and Word.
