About The Position

Are you detail-oriented and ready to make an impact? As a Payroll Specialist at Washington State University, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll operations across our campus. In this role, you will take ownership of complex fiscal processes, focusing on payroll overpayments submitted by departments university-wide. What You’ll Do: You will review, approve, and process payroll transactions with precision. You will consult with employees and departments to resolve accounting and reporting errors. You will manage the collection of overpaid amounts and verify accounting data. You will provide payroll training and serve as a backup for other critical payroll functions. You will work in various WSU applications and collaborate across teams to keep things running smoothly. Payroll experience is beneficial, but not required. We’ll provide training and professional development to help you succeed. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values accuracy, collaboration, and growth. Requirements

  • Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist 1 AND 15 quarter hours OR 10 semester hours of college level accounting; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience paying attention to detail and working accurately with numbers.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working under tight deadlines and in stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the WSU systems (Workday, DEPPS, HEPPS, FACTS, BALANCES, My WSU)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Microsoft Office environment with an emphasis on Word and Excel.
  • Clerical experience at WSU.
  • Experience in payroll, personnel or benefits in a higher education setting.
