About The Position

The role of the OR Tech II is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment and supplies. The OR Tech II in 701 Surgery provides care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older. The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The OR Tech II understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. The OR Tech II has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. When the OR Tech II is in the second scrub role they assist the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors and manipulating the endoscopic camera. This role is distinct from that of the first scrub and surgical first assistant.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT).
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a first scrub in Orthopedics, Trauma, Neuro, Davinci's, and Vascular.

Responsibilities

• Assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment, and supplies.
• Provide care for patients of all ages, from birth to geriatric.
• Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures.
• Understand the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
• Ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintain the sterile field.
• Assist the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure in the second scrub role.
