About The Position

The First Grade Teacher at Shidler Elementary is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction across core content areas, with a strong emphasis on early literacy, foundational math skills, and social-emotional development. First grade is a pivotal year. Students solidify foundational reading skills, develop mathematical reasoning, and build habits that shape their academic identity. This role is ideal for an educator who believes all students can achieve at high levels, thrives in a coaching-driven environment, and is committed to creating a structured, joyful, and academically rigorous classroom where students are both supported and challenged every day.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Strong alignment with Santa Fe South’s mission and a deep commitment to serving the southside Oklahoma City community
  • Belief in high expectations for all students and a willingness to do the work required to help them reach those expectations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching early elementary grades (K–2), particularly first grade
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based literacy instruction and early numeracy development
  • Experience working in diverse or high-need school communities
  • Demonstrated openness to feedback and a growth-oriented mindset
  • Oklahoma teaching certification (or willingness/eligibility to obtain) in Elementary Education

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards across core subject areas, with particular focus on early literacy and numeracy
  • Build strong foundational reading skills, including phonics, fluency, comprehension, and written expression, using evidence-based instructional practices
  • Internalize and plan lessons with purpose — preparing materials, anticipating misconceptions, and rehearsing instructional strategies to ensure clarity and rigor
  • Actively participate in Santa Fe South’s instructional coaching model by seeking, receiving, and implementing feedback to continuously strengthen practice
  • Analyze student data regularly to drive instruction, intervention, and enrichment
  • Establish and maintain a structured, joyful classroom culture with clear academic and behavioral expectations
  • Hold students to high standards while providing targeted scaffolds and support to ensure growth
  • Support students’ social-emotional development through consistent routines, strong relationships, and responsive classroom practices
  • Build respectful, proactive partnerships with families and communicate student progress consistently
  • Collaborate closely with grade-level teammates, instructional coaches, and campus leadership to contribute to Shidler’s continued academic growth
