About The Position

The First Assistant Golf Professional supports the Director of Golf by managing daily golf operations, including supervising staff, running the pro shop (merchandising, inventory), coordinating tournaments and events, providing customer service, giving golf instruction, managing tee sheets, and handling administrative duties, essentially stepping in for the Head Pro when needed to ensure seamless member/guest experience and revenue growth. This position is exempt and is expected to work on average 40 to 60 hours a week and at times may need to work up to a 12-hour shift. Expect to work on weekends and holidays as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the PGA or PGA Apprentice working to attain PGA Professional status.
  • Associate’s degree or two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of typical golf course procedures.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of tournament set-up, including scorecards, golf car tags, proximities, staging area set-up and billing charges.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop positive and ongoing relationships with members.
  • Ability to work on a team.
  • Ability to maintain complete knowledge of the handicapping system and all pertinent handicap information.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) at a proficient level.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in routine conversations in person, via telephone or 2-way radio.
  • Must be able to physically reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work under variable temperature conditions (extreme heat or cold, indoors/outdoors).
  • Prolonged periods standing or walking.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and conducting events and activities for ladies and men’s associations.
  • Assists in the execution of tournaments and special events.
  • Ensures all tournament winners are properly entered into the credit book with correct dates and description of event.
  • Assists with all golf outings including coordinating scorecards, cart signs, rules sheets, score sheets, favors, pairing sheets, and hole assignments.
  • Assumes Head Golf Professional’s and First Assistant’s duties in his or her absence.
  • Manages USGA handicap system for members.
  • Manages the daily opening and closing of golf operations.
  • Selects, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates all staff at the practice facility.
  • Supervise upkeep of the golf range to ensure that safe, clean, organized, and professional conditions always exist.
  • Ensure day-to-day activities at the driving range area are consistent with Club policy.
  • Collaborate with the Outside Services Manager to coordinate the scheduling for the practice facility attendants.
  • Administers all points of sales application as it applies to green fee sales, merchandise sales, and member/guest billing. Coordinates with Accounting Departments all policy and procedure revisions and updates.
  • Assist in maintaining the overall appearance, attractiveness and cleanliness of the club and resort golf shop, merchandise, and surrounding areas.
  • Handle special orders for members by placing orders with the Merchandise Manager.
  • Reconciles daily tee sheets, performs check-in, and receives payments from members and guests. Resolves discrepancies as it applies to duplicate charges and over or under payment.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to serve the customer’s need for golf merchandise, equipment, or other special requests.
  • Enhance relationships with members through golf play, teaching, and club events.
  • Enforce pace of play.
  • Clean shop displays, refold merchandise, and check-in merchandise.
  • Maintain gift certificate procedures.
