The primary purpose of the First/Surgical Assist position is to assist the surgeon and RN's in operative procedures. The primary role of the First/Surgical Assist- will be to function as an assistant to the Surgeon.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Preferred; Graudate of a Program in Discipline Required
  • License: Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • NBSTSA First Assist Certification on hire. Exempts surgical technologists practicing as of July 1, 2013
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Arterial Line Placement within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment, when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
  • Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
  • Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
  • Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
