About The Position

As a First Assist Vein Harvester (FA-VH) you will be specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery. You will provide immediate support and assistance to the CV surgeon during procedures and helps the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the surgical patient. The FA-VH provides assistance under the direction and supervision of the surgeon in accordance with hospital policy, level of training, and appropriate laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Advanced Life Support Course (ALS or ACLS) Certification.
  • Surgical Technologist Certificate (CST) and Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist (CSFA) and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or equivalent required. Must maintain required education and certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) Years of experience required, must have 200 verified patients during the past 12 months, or demonstrated completion of training within the past 12 months
  • Completion of Surgical Assistant Program or experienced as foreign medical doctor.
  • First Assist Certification within 6-months of hire:
  • Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Surgical Assistant - Certified
  • ed (SA-C) through American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
  • Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA)

Responsibilities

  • Review the upcoming surgical schedule and assist the Tech Service Specialist in ensuring physician preference cards are updated on a regular basis and act as a liaison for the surgeons in implementation of new products and equipment.
  • Coordinates with the sales reps to ensure proper equipment and supplies are available for upcoming cases. You will keep all team members informed of upcoming cases and needs.
  • Gathers data and ensure that data entered into STS is accurate and timely.
  • Are the content expert for the CVOR specialties and act as a resource to the rest of the staff and the surgeons.
  • Participate in the quality improvement activities and gathering of metrics to keep service performing at the highest level; in conjunction with RN and Tech Service Specialists plans and participates in service-specific team meetings and trainings.
  • Create a positive learning environment and assist with orientation of other team members and serves as a preceptor to new FA staff members or students.
  • Be responsible for formulation and updating protocols for specialty in coordination with RN and Tech Service Specialists.
  • Foster positive physician relationships and quality care within service areas.
