THE ROLE Lead the visionary development of the Direct Flash Module (DFM) firmware, the core innovation enabling the world’s fastest and most reliable all-flash storage. You will own the strategic firmware roadmap and delivery, driving the integration of cutting-edge NAND and SSD technologies to maintain our competitive edge in enterprise storage. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring deep technical expertise and strong collaboration with Hardware, Purity Software, and NAND Engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Deep Technical Leadership in Embedded Systems: Proven experience leading technical teams in embedded software development or firmware management for complex, high-performance systems.
  • Expertise in C/C++ and Embedded Development: Extensive, hands-on knowledge of embedded system architecture, firmware design principles, and proficiency in C/C++ programming languages.
  • Fluency in Storage/Hardware-Software Interfacing: Strong understanding of hardware-software interactions, particularly within storage technologies, SSD controllers, or NAND flash media management.
  • Mastery of Agile Product Delivery: Track record of successfully managing the full product development cycle (PDLC) using Agile or Scrum, with demonstrated ability to define scope, manage dependencies, and deliver projects on schedule.
  • Exceptional Communication and Stakeholder Management: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively articulate complex technical strategies to cross-functional partners, including Hardware, Software, and Executive teams.

Responsibilities

  • Define and Execute the Firmware Strategy: Own the long-term product and feature roadmap for the DFM firmware, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives for performance, cost, and reliability of the FlashArray platform.
  • Drive End-to-End Project Delivery: Lead and manage the entire firmware project lifecycle, overseeing resource allocation, mitigating technical risks, and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery from concept through production release.
  • Cultivate High-Performance Engineering: Champion Agile development methodologies, optimizing team sprints, backlog management, and engineering processes to continuously enhance team productivity and firmware quality.
  • Grow and Mentor Technical Talent: Manage team performance and conduct regular 1-on-1 coaching sessions, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and professional growth for firmware engineers.
  • Ensure System-Wide Reliability and Efficiency: Guide the design and implementation of sophisticated NAND media management policies and low-level hardware interfaces, ensuring the DFM maintains its simplicity, high performance, and industry leadership in NAND adoption (e.g., QLC).
