About The Position

dormakaba is seeking a Firmware Engineering Intern based in Lexington . This role will report directly to the VP Engineering. The Firmware Engineering Intern is responsible for partnering in the development, testing, and maintenance of embedded firmware for our products. This role is ideal for a student who is passionate about embedded systems and eager to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative environment. Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree with anticipated graduation date in December 2026 through Spring 2029 in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks (May-August 2026)
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers
  • Experience with C and/or C++ programming
  • Understanding of basic electronics and digital logic

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, logic analyzers, or similar) is a plus
  • Exposure to communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, or CAN

Responsibilities

  • Support testing and validation of firmware features and bug fixes
  • Help analyze and troubleshoot firmware issues in collaboration with senior engineers
  • Participate in code reviews and follow established coding standards
  • Work with cross-functional teams such as hardware, software, and engineering support
  • Learn and follow best practices for version control, testing, and firmware deployment
