The ideal candidate is a top-notch embedded software developer, passionate about building innovative solutions and enjoys solving problems in creative ways. As a part of the firmware development team, you will work on robotic control and safety systems to deliver features to enhance and maintain the most critical components of Amazon's Fulfillment solution. In addition to working on new products and ideas, you should demonstrate a strong ability to identify issues and show bias for action to drive resolution of these issues. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge, ranging from experience with "big data" through to embedded systems and all points in between. This will include strong software design and implementation experience, as well as a deep understanding in some specialty areas such as SLAM, image processing, wireless, networking, and an in-depth knowledge of Linux tools and architecture. In this position, these skills will be applied to help ensure that our robotic platforms are designed and implemented to the highest standards and built for resilience. This position will provide you with an opportunity to work across development teams to design solutions and critical products at a massive scale.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of development experience within an embedded environment. This must include hands-on experience design, developing, and debugging production quality products
  • Experience with image and visual processing or work with sensing devices such as cameras, radars, lidars
  • Experience with IMUs and encoder odometry
  • Familiar with building solutions that scale
  • Understanding for how product development occurs, including being able to make complex business/risk trade-off recommendations and decisions
  • Demonstrable experience with Linux and C

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience with real-time and non real-time data flows
  • Experience with SLAM stacks
  • Hands-on knowledge of developing a product to be certified to the 61508 industrial safety standards or some other similar standards such as medical, automotive, or avionic
  • Technical knowledge in at least one system of: wireless, networking, or electro-mechanical control systems
  • Experience in generating automated metrics to measure quality and/or product effectiveness and consistency
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork and collaboration skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Results-oriented, high energy, and self-motivated
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a focus on clarity and translating technically complex issues into simple, easy to understand concepts

Responsibilities

  • Participate as an active member of the firmware team, developing and maintaining the firmware base of our SLAM & Navigation stack
  • Learn and gain proficiency in multiple components with the firmware environment, including areas such as encoder odometry, vision sensors, sensor fusion and safety
  • Work with and lead teams of high caliber firmware developers on critical products
  • Demonstrate best engineering practices, documentation, and ownership
