This internship opportunity is within the Advanced Hardware Engineering team, which focuses on the design and development of new modules and sensors for our autonomous robot. Interns on this team will have the chance to work on cutting edge technologies, gaining valuable experience and insight into high reliability and safety critical automotive systems.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., Ph.D., or other advanced degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Plan to return to school after completing the internship.
  • Maintain good academic standing.
  • Available to commit to a 12-week internship beginning in May or June 2026.
  • At least one prior industry internship, co-op, or relevant project experience.
  • Willing and able to relocate to the Bay Area, California, for the duration of the internship.
  • Interns may not use proprietary Zoox information in university theses, publications, or share it outside of Zoox.
  • Proficiency in C++ and/or C
  • Experience writing and debugging embedded software
  • Hands-on experience with embedded development kits and/or custom PCB hardware
  • Experience using oscilloscope/logic analyzer
  • Professional and positive communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with assembly language programming
  • Proficiency in developing and debugging device drivers
  • Hands-on experience working with Lidars, Radars, Cameras, and GPS sensors
  • Knowledge of PTP IEEE-1588 Precision Time Synchronization Protocols
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems including QNX, FreeRTOS, and Linux
