About The Position

SUMMARY: The Firewall Administrator II is responsible for the support of the organization's firewall infrastructure. This role ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of network resources by maintaining robust firewall policies. The administrator will collaborate with Cyber Security, IT, and business units to identify security requirements, optimize firewall configurations, and support compliance with regulatory standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned. Provides support in the design, implementation, and maintenance of a firewall solution to safeguard network assets. Configures, upgrades, and troubleshoots firewalls, including rule base management, NAT, VPN, and threat prevention features Leads development and implementation of Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) for firewall management and Security Platforms Operations. Monitors firewall logs and alerts, analyze traffic patterns, and respond to security incidents. Performs regular firewall policy reviews and updates to ensure alignment with security best practices and business needs. Collaborates with network and security teams to integrate firewalls with other security technologies (SIEM, IDS/IPS, DLP, etc.). Assists in the selection, testing, documentation, and operation of firewall-related technologies. Supports disaster recovery activities and participate in change control meetings as the firewall subject matter expert. Interfaces with external vendors for support and hosted security services. Provides technical support to end-users and IT staff regarding firewall-related issues. Prepares reports, presentations, and recommendations for management on firewall operations and security posture. Assists with internal and external audit requests related to firewall controls. Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.). Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training. Identifies and reports suspicious activity.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience administering firewalls in a large enterprise environment
  • Experience with security technologies such as firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and vulnerability management tools
  • Strong analytical experience in network and data security infrastructure
  • Expert knowledge of firewall architecture, features, and management tools (CLI, WebUI).
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, routing, switching, and security concepts.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work outside normal hours and participate in on-call rotation as needed.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Nice To Haves

  • A network security firewall administrator certification preferred
  • CISSP, Security+, or other relevant security certifications preferred
  • Familiarity with bank security policies and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Candidates residing in locations within BankUnited's footprint may be given preference.
