About The Position
The Greensboro Fire Department is a Class I, Internationally Accredited Fire Department, and is one of 291 agencies to achieve Internationally Accredited Agency status with the CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excellence Inc. (CPSE). Our mission is to educate and serve people. Our purpose (mission) is to protect life, property, and the environment within every community entrusted to our care. The City of Greensboro Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the 82nd Recruit Academy. Recruit training for the 82nd Academy will be an intense 24-week program of fire and EMT, demanding high academic performance, daily rigorous physical activity, weight training, aerobic activities, and periodic assessments on the physical abilities course. Candidates must successfully complete all required physical training. Failure to do so at any point during the training period will result in termination. Upon successful completion of the training program, recruits will be assigned to a fire company within the Emergency Services Division and serve a six-month probationary period. The normal work schedule once assigned to Emergency Services will consist of one day (24 hours) on-duty followed by two days (48 hours) off-duty. Candidates must be in excellent health and have no conditions which would restrict their ability to perform these duties safely. These conditions must be met at the time of application and maintained throughout the application process. No residency requirements presently exist. This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
