Position Overview: Your responsibilities will include engaging in effective rescue and firefighting tasks, participating in fire prevention and safety activities, maintaining equipment and facilities, and responding to emergency medical situations with empathy and skill. Following an initial training period, you will work a 24-hour shift schedule, with varying weekly hours, fully immersing yourself in the life-saving mission of the Eagan Fire Department.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Minnesota / I.F.S.A.C Accredited Firefighter II certification.
  • Must have a current and valid Emergency Medical Technician certification.
  • Hold a valid Driver's License.
  • Successfully complete and pass criminal background check, physical and medical exams, psychological exam, and reference check.
  • Current licensed Firefighter in the State of Minnesota or ability to become licensed at time of hire.
  • Current Minnesota or I.F.S.A.C Accredited Fire Inspector prior to completion of probation.
  • Capable of reading fire protection textbooks and writing reports with proper grammar.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and use logic to solve concrete problems.

Responsibilities

  • Respond on or off duty to fire calls and/or emergencies as directed.
  • Respond to emergency medical calls, render aid to victim(s) as required in accordance with department policy.
  • Respond to fire alarms, getting to the scene with proper equipment quickly and safely.
  • Rescue individuals from fires and other emergency situations.
  • Extinguish fires using hoses, ladders, and other extinguishing agents.
  • Perform salvage operations including placing tarps and removing excess water.
  • Clean up and prepare equipment for readiness.
  • Assist in inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fire-related equipment.
  • Maintain facilities and perform housekeeping duties.
  • Assist in community outreach, fire prevention, and public education duties.
  • Maintain and improve rescue and firefighting skills through training.
  • Complete reports and other documents as required.
