Other benefits: life insurance and health, vision and dental coverage; holidays (14) and sick, vacation and compensatory time. [Prior service: Any appointment transferring from another public agency to Macedonia as a full-time firefighter/paramedic shall be credited with any unused balance of their accumulated sick leave up to a maximum of 960 sick hours] Qualifications: Must be a U.S citizen, must have high school diploma or GED equivalent, and must be 18 years of age at the time of application. Must possess current, valid Ohio drivers' license and must be insurable, and must be State of Ohio certified firefighter I & II/EMT-paramedic within one year of appointment. Documentation preferred at time of application but in no event later than within one year of appointment. Written Exam: Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 6:30 p.m., Macedonia City Center, 9691 Valley View Road, Community Room, Lower level. Photo ID required. Additional credit with passing grade of 70% (for a maximum of 15 points): May only receive one (1) of these bonuses: Ten (10) points given for current Macedonia part-time firefighter/paramedics who have successfully completed probation. Five (5) points given for current Macedonia part-time firefighter/paramedics who have successfully completed orientation. Five (5) points for a current part-time or full-time firefighter/paramedic with another agency as a firefighter/paramedic AND has worked at least 2,080 hours in the last 24 months. Physical Agility Test additional credit: Five (5) points if completed under 3 minutes and 30 seconds, with an additional five (5) points if completed under 3 minutes. Five (5) points given for military service- (DD 214 stating honorable discharge must be provided). Documentation relative to additional credit must be on file with the Macedonia Civil Service Commission no later than May 6, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. Physical Agility/Assessment Test Certificate: Certificate of Completion of Physical Agility Test (PAT) with qualifying time of 4 minutes and 30 seconds is required from Tri-C Fire Training Academy, Western Campus; Parma, Ohio, Stark State, main North Canton campus, or the Auburn Career Center. PAT certificates are valid for one-year from date of issuance. Candidate is solely responsible for contacting either Tri-C, Stark State or Auburn Career Center directly to schedule PAT. Tri-C requires a $75 registration fee and Stark State requires a $100 restoration fee. The next Tri-C test dates are March 15 and April 26, 2026 and Stark State is March 22 and April 12, 2026. The submission of PAT certificate preferred at time of application but in no event later than time of appointment. Final review and certification of the eligibility list is at the sole discretion of the Macedonia Civil Service Commission. Eligible candidate(s) required to take and pass psychological, physical and polygraph tests. Other testing includes EKG, drug screening (periodic drug screening during employment required) background check, and personal interview with the appointing authority.
