The City of Oceanside is seeking applications for the position of Firefighter Paramedic Recruit. This role is essential in providing both basic and advanced life support to individuals experiencing injury or sudden illness. Firefighter Paramedics are responsible for performing firefighting duties, engaging in rescue operations, and conducting fire prevention activities. They will also be required to drive and operate various types of fire apparatus and equipment, maintain the station and equipment, and participate in ongoing training activities. This position is critical to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, and recruits will undergo rigorous training at the Oceanside Fire Academy to prepare for these responsibilities. While in the Oceanside Fire Academy, recruits will work a 40-hour week and receive a monthly salary of $5,649. Upon successful graduation from the academy, recruits will transition to the Firefighter Paramedic role, which operates on a 56-hour work week with a salary range of $7,214 to $9,209 per month. Additionally, there is an Educational Incentive Pay for those who hold certifications in eligible classes, providing a 5% increase in their base hourly rate after successful completion of probation. Candidates must meet specific qualifications, including educational requirements, licenses, and certifications. A valid California driver’s license is mandatory, along with a current CPR certification and a State of California EMT-P license or National Registry EMT-P certificate. Successful candidates will also need to attain San Diego County EMT-P accreditation before completing the Oceanside Fire Academy. The physical demands of the job require agility and the ability to perform the full range of Firefighter/Paramedic duties, including working shifts of up to 24 hours, which may include evenings, holidays, and weekends. The selection process includes a Physical Abilities Test, skills and knowledge tests, and an oral board interview, ensuring that only the most qualified candidates are selected for this vital role.
