About The Position

The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic II - Lateral. Four (4) vacancies currently exist within the department. This recruitment will also be used to establish a list for future vacancies that may occur over the next 12-month period. Vacaville Firefighter/Paramedics perform skilled work in emergency fire suppression, emergency medical care, fire prevention, investigation activities, ALS transportation and other activities that support the protection of life and property. Firefighter/Paramedics assume primary responsibility for patient care at the scene of a medical emergency; assist in the maintenance and care of all stations, apparatus and equipment; and perform other related duties normally associated with the position of a professional Firefighter/Paramedic. Firefighter/Paramedic II is the journey level and performs the full range of Firefighter and Paramedic duties.

Requirements

  • Certification of successful completion of California State Fire Marshal approved Firefighter I training (or equivalent).
  • One year paid full-time professional experience as a Firefighter/Paramedic in an all-risk fire department.
  • Possession of current, valid California Paramedic License.
  • Possession of California State Fire Marshal Firefighter 1 (or reciprocity).
  • Possession of a California driver's license, Class B or C, with a Firefighter Endorsement or better.
  • Possession of a current, valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card.
  • Possession of Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professional certification (PEPP).
  • Possession of Prehospital Trauma Life Support certification (PHTLS) or Basic Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support certification (BTLS/ITLS).

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience as a Firefighter/Paramedic.
  • Possession of California State Fire Marshal Firefighter 2 (or reciprocity).
  • Possession of California State Fire Marshal Rescue Systems 1 Certification.
  • Possession of California State Fire Marshal Driver/Operator 1A Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform emergency fire suppression and emergency medical care.
  • Conduct fire prevention and investigation activities.
  • Provide ALS transportation and support for the protection of life and property.
  • Assume primary responsibility for patient care at the scene of a medical emergency.
  • Assist in the maintenance and care of all stations, apparatus, and equipment.
  • Perform other related duties associated with the position.
