About The Position

This is entry-level firefighting work combating, extinguishing and preventing fires and operating and maintaining fire suppression apparatus and equipment. Work requires strenuous physical exertion under adverse conditions such as hazardous materials or cramped surroundings. Employees are also responsible for participating in daily training activities, inspecting and maintaining equipment and apparatus and cleaning and maintaining quarters. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Fire Lieutenant or Captain.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment.
• Must possess a diploma from a high school accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Alabama State Board of Education or possess a GED certificate.
• Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a valid Alabama Driver's License upon completion of the 6 month probationary period.
• Must pass the Job Task Assessment (JTA).
• Must pass a medical exam in accordance with NFPA 1582.
• Must comply with MFR's Tattoo Policy.
• Must have two years of experience in a career fire department and be Alabama Proboard Certified as a Firefighter for Firefighter/EMT I applicants.
• Must possess a current Paramedics license with the State of Alabama for Firefighter/Paramedic applicants.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a validated career fire department.
• Current Certifications in Firefighter I and II and EMT I Certifications for State of Alabama.
• Nationally Registered EMT Basic or Paramedic License.
