About The Position

The Firefighter position with Escambia County's Public Safety Department is a full-time or relief role that involves constant preparation for and response to various emergencies, including medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, and fire emergencies. The role also includes public education services and training for emergency situations. This position is subject to mandatory drug testing and collective bargaining agreements, with volunteer positions excluded from such agreements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
  • Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance as issued by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
  • Basic Life Support & CPR Healthcare Provider Certification through the AHA.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of fire suppression techniques.
  • Understanding of modern firefighting and rescue principles and tactics.
  • Experience in emergency medical care.
  • Familiarity with physical fitness principles.
  • Knowledge of vehicle, equipment, and apparatus maintenance principles and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to all types of fires and other emergencies; extinguishes fires and performs related life and property protection.
  • Provides emergency medical care at a basic and advanced life support level.
  • Participates in training opportunities and physical fitness activities.
  • Ensures the proper condition, maintenance, and appearance of apparatus and equipment; prepares apparatus for immediate response.
  • Assists in completing and maintaining records related to personnel, incidents, and/or other related items.
  • Drives emergency vehicles and operates related apparatus in order to respond to emergency calls and scenes.
  • Participates in the daily functions of the fire station, which may include housekeeping, cooking, making crew assignments, and/or performing other related duties.
  • Participates in fire department programs, such as pre-fire planning and fire hydrant checks.
  • Facilitates training sessions to the public on fire-related topics.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
