About The Position

The City of Milpitas is seeking dynamic individuals to join the Milpitas Fire Department, which is committed to providing outstanding service to the community through the preservation of life, property, and the environment. The department offers comprehensive emergency response, fire protection, emergency medical services, disaster preparedness, community education, and risk reduction. The Fire Department is organized into six functions: Fire Administration, Operations Division, EMS and Training, Office of Emergency Management, Fire Prevention, and Fire Prevention Administration. The City of Milpitas is a progressive community located at the southern end of San Francisco Bay, known for its diverse and inclusive population of over 80,000 residents. With a focus on building a sustainable future, the City is at the forefront of developing the next generation economy.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of full-time continuous professional firefighting experience as a Firefighter with a public agency or special district.
  • Equivalent to the successful completion of the twelfth grade; some college-level fire science coursework is desirable.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's License and Firefighter Endorsement.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • California State Fire Marshal certifications in Technical Rescue Operations, Hazardous Materials Technician, and Wildland Urban Interface for Firefighter/EMT.
  • California State Fire Marshal certifications in Technical Rescue Operations, Hazardous Materials Technician, and Wildland firefighting for Firefighter/Paramedic.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and perform skilled tasks at the scene of emergency calls for assistance including fire, medical assistance, rescues, and hazardous materials incidents.
  • Provide patient/victim assessment and initiate appropriate medical treatment according to standard protocols.
  • Participate as a team member in responding to alarms, connecting and laying hose lines, and operating firefighting equipment.
  • Engage in proficiency training to develop and maintain job skills, and attend drills and staff conferences.
  • Participate in community relations activities and public education classes.
