  • Serves as a fully trained member of a firefighting crew and a hazardous material response team.
  • Provides pre-hospital care to injured or ill persons as a first responder at the EMT-B level.
  • Engages in various tactics necessary to perform firefighting duties, including attacking and extinguishing fires in structures, vehicles, aircraft, and wild lands.
  • As a hazardous materials technician, engages in activities to mitigate incidents from site management to returning the scene to normal.
  • Drives and operates firefighting vehicles of various sizes, including aerial ladders, aircraft crash-rescue vehicles, engine/pumpers, and hazardous materials vehicles.
  • Must complete a suitability or fitness determination through a background investigation.
  • Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and annual examinations thereafter.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and random testing thereafter.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Must obtain and maintain required licenses to operate firefighting vehicles within nine months of appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Government Driver's Certification within six months from the effective date of appointment.
  • Requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Must work 72 hours per week/144 biweekly hours.
  • Firefighter I and II certifications.
  • Driver/Operator Pumper certification.
  • Hazardous Operations certification through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System.
  • State or National Registry EMT License.
