About The Position

The Fire Watch position is responsible for actively monitoring the workplace for fire hazards while other employees are performing their duties. This includes ensuring flammable materials are kept away from ignition sources and performing fire prevention activities during hot work operations. In the event of a fire, the individual must be prepared to extinguish it immediately or activate a fire alarm. Key tasks also involve managing and tracking fire equipment and adhering to all directives from the Foreman and Firewatch Coordinator.

Requirements

Able to read and write effectively
Ability to use Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Able to work in confined spaces
Must be able to work for 8 to 12 hours per day
Must be able to work up to 5-7 days a week
Background check 7-years of past employment history
Must pass a drug screening
Required physical and respirator fit testing
2 years or more in some capacity of Fire Watch general labor experience specifically with shipboard experience within shipyard environment
In possession or able to obtain fire watch certification
Must be able to obtain DBIDS Credentials
High School or equivalent

Responsibilities

Keep track of time locations and fire bottles assigned
Keep track of fire extinguishers daily
Watch out for fire hazards in the workplace while work is performed by other employees
Keep flammable materials from ignition sources
In the event of fire, extinguish it immediately or turn a fire alarm on
Performs fire prevention activities during hot work operations
Performs other duties as assigned
Fulfill job requirements as directed by Foreman & Firewatch Coordinator
