The Fire Protection Department of UVA's Facilities Management is seeking a Fire Systems Assistant Technician. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, in addition to managing capital construction and renovation for University-owned and leased properties. The Fire and Life Safety Team carries out code required inspections, defined maintenance routines, and repair service for all University properties. The Fire Systems Assistant Technician helps the Team provide consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. This position assists technicians in performing inspections and maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems in public and private buildings. The Assistant Technician assists in preparing and maintaining accurate and detailed records of fire system maintenance and inspections. The Assistant Technician works under direct supervision but is expected to occasionally work independently while performing inspections, maintenance, and some repairs to the fire detection and suppression systems. Assistant Technicians keep students, staff, patients, and visitors safe by assisting in the maintenance of fire protection systems throughout the University.
