About The Position

Piper Fire Protection’s Sarasota, FL branch is seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting and ensuring the proper functioning of fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler systems in compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and local regulations. This critical role contributes to the safety and protection of lives and property in our community.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Associate degree or technical certification in Fire Protection or related field preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm inspection, testing, and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 25 and NFPA 72 standards, as well as local fire codes and regulations
  • Ability to accurately identify deficiencies and provide clear, detailed reports
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools, testing equipment, and basic computer applications for reporting
  • Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) and local codes.
  • Identify and document any deficiencies, malfunctions, or violations related to fire alarm systems.
  • Verify that alarm panels, detectors, notification devices, and emergency power systems are operational.
  • Test and maintain communication pathways, such as phone lines and communication networks.
  • Provide recommendations and reports for necessary repairs and upgrades.
  • Stay current with industry advancements and technology related to fire alarm systems.
  • Perform routine inspections of fire sprinkler systems following NFPA 25 (Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems) and local codes.
  • Inspect sprinkler heads, pipes, valves, pumps, and related components for proper functionality.
  • Conduct flow tests and inspections of backflow preventers.
  • Document any issues or deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with contractors for system repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Ensure that water supply sources for fire sprinklers are adequate and functional.
