About The Position

A UA Local 669 Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter is a highly skilled trade professional who installs, maintains, and repairs complex fire sprinkler systems, working on large commercial/industrial projects nationwide, adhering strictly to NFPA codes, reading blueprints, operating specialized tools, and often leading apprentices, requiring physical stamina, mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to travel extensively for long-term projects, with benefits and wages set by union contracts.

Requirements

  • Ability to stay on feet all day
  • Ability to lift/carry 50+ pounds with no fear of climbing or heights
  • Ability to work overhead while holding heavy pipe for extended period of time
  • Understand basic measurements, capability of learning to read construction drawings, plans
  • Unionized: Governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with set wages and benefits.
  • Mobile: Jobs can be nationwide, requiring travel.
  • Full-Time: Generally full-time, Monday-Friday, but may involve on-call or overtime.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Certification (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies).
  • Fire suppression system certification (state-specific).
  • OSHA 10, 17, 17A, 96,1 and 99 fire codes and building codes or OSHA 30 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Climbing of ladders
  • Working at heights
  • Working overhead
  • Cut and install pipe, fittings and valves using saws, pipe cutter, hammer, hammer drill and chisel, torch and pipe cutting machine.
  • Threads pipe, using pipe threading machine
  • Bends pipe, using pipe bending tools and pipe bending machine
  • Assembles and installs a variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes, fittings. Including iron, steel, copper and plastic.
  • Connects pipes using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented
  • Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps and hangers, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment, such as pumps and cylinders using hand tools.
  • Increases pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system or leaks.
  • May weld pipe supports structural steel members.
