About The Position

The Fire Sprinkler Designer will design, coordinate, and possibly project manage the fire sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. This role involves designing and creating the finished representation for the sprinkler systems using drawing and drafting skills and tools. The drawings produced will serve as a guide for every other link in the construction chain, both on-site and in the office. The designer will be responsible for the initial planning of a project, including scheduling time, creating material stock listings, analyzing changes, and solving problems. Close coordination with the project manager, project superintendent, and sales representative will be required throughout the project duration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Applicable degree from a technical school or college.
  • Two years or more experience in commercial industrial, and residential design.
  • Detail-oriented and skilled in free hand and mechanical lettering and drawings.
  • NICET certification is a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability with AutoCAD, AutoSprink, BIM, Bluebeam or HydraCAD or other specialized fire sprinkler layout software.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability and track record of performing work in a timely manner and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in commercial industrial, and residential fire sprinkler system design.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willing to coordinate and work well with others.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with subcontractors and General Contractor/owner to gather the required information to design the project's fire sprinkler system.
  • Thorough use of analytical thinking and problem solving to determine construction feasibility and systems possibilities.
  • Create detailed drawings through extensive use of AutoCAD, AutoSprink, BIM, Bluebeam or HydraCAD type programs.
  • Create a stock list for all material required throughout the project.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Develop initial schedules for preliminary project work.
  • Maintain design historical records for future use.
  • Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure the company is meeting customers' expectations.
  • Coordinate with other departments within the office to ensure proper handover of job information.
  • Perform Project Manager functions as required.
  • Manage project & drawing archives.
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities as directed by immediate supervisor or other IFP management personnel.
