About The Position

The Fire Sprinkler Apprentice position at MetroPower involves working under direct supervision to ensure safe work habits and proper care of tools and equipment. The apprentice will assist with materials handling, installation of materials, devices, and equipment. This role includes specific tasks such as identifying and eliminating hazardous conditions at the job site, maintaining a safe and orderly job site, handling and staging materials, assisting with layout, wire pulls, and installation, and may require operating heavy equipment. The apprentice will also assist with cable tray installations, device installations, and lighting connections, receive on-the-job learning as part of the apprenticeship program, and attend classes to make satisfactory progress towards apprenticeship completion. A positive safety attitude and personal integrity are essential, along with the ability to read and interpret instructions, maps, and manuals.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Provide I-9 documents to establish work eligibility
  • Evidence of High School Diploma or GED; high school transcript, if necessary
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • DD 214 (if veteran)
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, physical and background check
  • Good Color Acuity (determine wire colors)
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, push, pull & reach overhead
  • Able to work at least 40 hour weeks and overtime and night shift, as needed
  • Lift at least 50 pounds
  • Constant moving on your feet
  • Climb ladders of all types

Responsibilities

  • Identify and eliminate hazardous conditions at the job site
  • Maintain the job site in a safe, neat and orderly condition
  • Handle and stage materials, equipment and tools
  • Assist with layout, wire pulls and installation
  • May be required to operate heavy equipment
  • Assist with cable tray installations, device installations, and lighting connections
  • Receive On-the-job learning (OJL) as part of the apprenticeship program
  • Attend class & make satisfactory progress with apprenticeship program completion
  • Safely operate hand and power tools
  • Legally operate company vehicles and equipment
