About The Position

The Fire Sprinkler & Suppression Systems Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and operational readiness of fire protection systems across U.S. Navy facilities. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, testing, and repairing fire sprinkler and suppression systems in compliance with NFPA codes, UFC standards, and contract requirements. Minimum 5 years of experience in fire protection/life safety systems.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • In-depth knowledge of fire protection codes and standards (NFPA, UFC).
  • Expertise in various fire suppression systems and layouts.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and system schematics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS platforms (e.g., NAVFAC Maximo).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of working independently and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Physically fit to perform field tasks (bending, climbing, standing).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass medical, dental, drug, and background screenings.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • NICET Level III – Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems
  • NICET Level III – Water-Based Systems Layout
  • High school diploma or technical/vocational school graduate (required).
  • Experience in Fire Sprinkler Field as pipefitter, Journeyman and/or Foreman.
  • Extensive knowledge of various types of Sprinkler Systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, fire pumps, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Level III – Special Hazards Systems
  • Licensed Fire Protection Engineer (FPE)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Familiarity with systems from Tyco, Ansul, Viking, Reliable is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, service, and repair fire sprinkler and suppression systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, foam, clean agent).
  • Conduct routine and complex maintenance on fire protection equipment, including hydrants and pumps.
  • Perform system testing, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, UFC-03-601-02, UFC-03-600-01, and other applicable standards.
  • Document all inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities accurately.
  • Coordinate with facility teams to minimize disruptions during service.
  • Respond to emergency calls and restore system functionality promptly.
  • Support audits, inspections, and fire safety drills.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support mission objectives.
