About The Position

This position is scheduled to begin August 2026. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced faculty member to lead and instruct in our Fire Science program, serving as both a full-time instructor and the Program Director for the college's Fire Science Program and the Phoenix Fire Academy. This position plays a crucial role in educating students from diverse backgrounds in a comprehensive range of emergency medical education and fire science courses. The faculty member will be responsible for delivering instruction in areas such as fire services, fire behavior, fire safety, fire apparatus, fire command, tactics and strategies, ventilation, hydraulics, ladder operations, extrication, wildland firefighting, technical rescue (TRT), hazardous materials (Hazmat), and fitness and conditioning. Additionally, this role includes collaboration with the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic departments to enhance interdisciplinary training and assist in primary instruction as needed. As a Program Director, the faculty member will provide leadership in the supervision and oversight of students, staff, and faculty within the Fire Science program and Phoenix Fire Academy. This includes fostering partnerships with local agencies and emergency service organizations to ensure the highest-quality educational experience. The role also involves program expansion, course development, and maintaining accreditation standards to uphold excellence in fire science education. Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Student Engagement: Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students, including those enrolled at the Phoenix Fire Academy, certificate and degree programs, and possible future high school bridge programs. Provides instruction across various learning environments, including classroom, lab, clinical, and field internship settings, as well as online, hybrid, accelerated, and other alternative schedules and formats. Employs learning-centered strategies to engage students and promote student success, retention, and achievement.
  • Innovative Teaching & Curriculum Development: Develops instructional materials, curricula, and course content, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices. Prepares written syllabi, course outlines, and assessment tools, evaluates student progress, and maintains scholastic records. Incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery methods to enhance student learning experiences. Actively participates in the Fire Science Instructional Council.
  • Faculty & Program Oversight: Hires, supervises, and evaluates adjunct faculty, skills instructors, and staff. Ensures compliance with accreditation standards by tracking and monitoring student performance, certifications, and program requirements. Actively participates in division and college-wide assessment and program review processes, using data-driven insights to improve instruction and student learning outcomes.
  • Student Support & Advising: Maintains regular office hours to assist, tutor, and advise students in academic, professional, and personal development. Engages with students outside the classroom through instructional activities, clubs, and interdisciplinary STEAM initiatives. Supports student participation in experiential learning opportunities.
  • Industry & Community Collaboration: Establishes and strengthens relationships with business, industry, and community partners to enhance workforce readiness and professional pathways for students. Develops articulation agreements with high schools and universities to promote seamless transfer pathways. Fosters interprofessional relationships with allied healthcare programs and emergency medical services to support interdisciplinary education and training.
  • Professional Development & Institutional Engagement: Stays current with emerging trends, research, and best practices in fire science, emergency medical services, and mobile integrated healthcare through participation in conferences, workshops, and continuing education programs. Engages in college and district activities, including department meetings, committees, councils, and institutional initiatives. Demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders while fostering a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
