It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital. Job Summary Performs skilled work in the testing, inspection, maintenance and repair of the hospital’s Fire Protection systems, and their related components using various hand and power tools. Subject to the usual hazards of trade and apply appropriate safety precautions. The work is performed under the supervision of the Facilities Manager and is evaluated by observation, inspection and the operational efficiency of systems and equipment. · Inspections and tests all Fire Protection systems to meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Tests and inspects - Fire alarm panels, equipment, smoke detectors, heat detectors, sprinkler device flow, sprinkler tamper devices, fire pumps, strobes, etc. Has knowledge, and may perform, all fire drills · Installation, maintenance and repair of Fire Protection systems and their related components and ensure they are operating correctly · Completes and files all inspection reports to comply with NFPA standards · Vendor Management - contacts and monitors vendor repairs, installation and maintenance of Fire Protection systems. · Uses knowledge of fire protection systems to submit estimates of material and labor needed for projects and the upgrading of systems. · Responds to hospital emergency (fire/safety/medical) situations in an appropriate manner as indicated in departmental policies and procedures. · Attend and complete all HHC required training as well as all licensure required training to retain licenses/certifications · Teach & mentor new in career Facilities Techs · Perform other related duties as required · Read, speak and understand the English language

Requirements

  • 3 years working on commercial Fire Protection systems
  • Valid CT FP-2 Fire Protection License or Low Voltage license (L5)
  • Advanced working knowledge of procedures, techniques, material and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler systems and their related components. Knowledge of NFPA 13, 25 & 72
  • Advanced working knowledge Joint Commission, DPH local fire safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read prints schematics and diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school graduate or other related training preferred
  • 5 years working on commercial Fire Protection systems preferred
  • Valid National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification preferred
