Fire Safety Specialist
About The Position
To inspect and ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes. Responsible for protecting life and property by ensuring the design, installation, maintenance, and compliance of all fire and life safety systems within the University’s facilities. This role involves conducting inspections, assisting with the development of safety plans, and ensuring adherence to all local, state, and federal fire safety laws and regulations. Schedule and conduct fire drills/emergency evacuation exercises. To assist in the operation of the lab safety program. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience in fire safety inspection, fire prevention or a related field.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license
- Ability to operate University vehicles and golf carts
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to identify hazards and recommend effective solutions.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s degree in fire science or closely related field (or equivalent combination of experience and training)
- Certification as a fire safety inspector in the State of Ohio
- Nicet certification in WBFPS
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and unscheduled fire and life safety inspections of all facilities.
- Code enforcement & interpretation
- Coordinate and conduct fire drills and other emergency preparedness activities.
- Maintain detailed records of all inspection activities, test results and corrective actions.
